I wouldnt believe everything you read yes the 500's had a bad squish band design & some need inserts but not all of them the 87's needed larger head studs the rest is basic any good engine builder can port it & build it for you

one more thing it's getting close to a 20yr old machine to go through it right & replace all the bearings & worn parts in the motor wont be cheep but worth it if your going to keep the machine

" i was told id be working on this more than riding it"
and get used to it

hinson clutch basket
main bearing insert's(get them, every zilla will need them sooner or later)
larger head studs
rear ears on the cylinder beefed up
re-chambered head(must)

what makes you think the 87 cases dont need inserts? all the cases are the same

and explain to me why my main bearing were starting to spin in the cases on my 87

detonation from the stock head is what causes the bearings to spin..... that is also why the kickstarter kicks back at you

LMAO
a lean condition or fast timing causes kick back not detonation
SOME JUNK CASES NEED INSERTS THEY ARE A PATCH !
IMO if they are bad buy new cases
now when all the new cases are gone & the bearings are loose you will have no choice other than to patch them with inserts but till then buy new cases & avoid inserts i'm telling you this & i do inserts (BTW the correct way!) i'd rather see you spend your $ at your local dealer for new cases i'm in this sport for the fun not to make money leading people down the wrong road !

obviously you dont know what your doing with inserts, every hard ridden zilla out there is in need of them or has had them allready done to it..... fast timing? what the hell does that mean? if you mean it sparks before it's supposed to, thats called detonation. and a lean condition toast the bearings not the cases.

the motor detonatin causes alot of force down on the crank and eventually loosening the crank bearing in the cases

what kind of insets you put in? if they suck so bad why do you bother?
