To the best of my knowledge there is only a few parts the same from 87 to an 89 carb. The 87 is a bleed type and the 89 is a normal type or so I have heard.

Yes, the '87 carb will work on an '89, but the internals are way different. The '87 43B00 carburetor had a dangerously lean midrange, and was changed significantly. The 43B00 carb had a 30 pilot jet, an O-6 needle jet, a 6DH6-3 jet needle, a 420 main jet, and a 2.0 cutaway on the throttle valve. Newer 43B10 or 43B20 carbs have 22.5 pilot jets, R-2 needle jets, 6DK3-3 jet needles, 350 main jets, and 4.0 cutaways on the throttle valve. You can use the '87 carb on the '89, and it won't have the lean midrange if you change all of the internals to the ones in the newer carbs, but the carb slides are expensive, so you might as well try to pick up a 43B10 or 43B20 carb.
