Default Brand New Engine but cant get it started

Hey guys,
My buddy just got his zilla engine back from our local mechanic rebuilt from head to toe with new cylinder, crank, trans, etc...

Anyways, we mounted it into the frame, hooked up the wiring and we cannot get this think to start. Carb was sent out and thoroughly cleaned, new reeds, etc...

I have plenty of spark and the plug is getting gas.

This thing has so much compression that it has a tendency to kick back the kickstarter killing my foot. I need race boots to kick this thing.

We have even tried dragging this thing behind my truck and popping the gear to bump start. She wants to start and it will pop and run for about a second or so.

It almost seems like it may not be firing at TDC. When we drag it, I can smell the blenzall out the exhaust.

Any ideas and where I can start?

maybe you need to richen it up? iv heard zillas have troubles with kicking back if they are a little too lean on the pilot. are you able to adjust your timming? if so try to advace it a couple degrees.

speed doesnt kill, its usally hitting something and suddenly becomming stationary that does it

well a lot of things will keep them from starting if it's kicking back i'd say it's lean or the timing is fast pull the cover & see where he as the stator set make sure he didnt advance it a bunch then tear your carb down check the pilot jet make sure it not stoped up & what size it is & what needle it has what positoin the clip is in also pull the reed cage back out check the reeds are sealing if they are slightly off seat that can cause hard starting i know you said you had good spark but i've seen them have good spark across a plug & not fire right under pressure disconect the black/yellow wire in the cdi (dont ride it this way no kill switch) make sure you havent wired any kill switches to the black wire or to the coil i've seen that cause ign problems & hard starting how much compression does it have ? if it's way up there with a lot of squish velocity you could be blowing out the spark
you do have a new plug in it ? try gapping one at .015

guess i got that one backwards, i had that happen on my 3wheeler with a new motor and it kicking back when it was retarded to much, but this guy knows more than me so id probility listen to him.
