| While that could very well be the problem (common) you should still look to check the counter-balancer seal isnt damaged. Oil can come from both sources. You describe symptoms of flooding, bad air filter, improper/fouling plug, ect. Generally, when the stator seal goes, the engine likes to wind up and only come back down when you choke it. Similar to the way the engine reacts when the base gasket blows. Sucking air causes a lean condition making the engine rev, flooding causes a rich condition making the engine bog. You don't clarify whether you're leaning out or not, I'm saying this based on the fact that you idle fine. Generally, you won't idle fine with a blown seal. Have you checked the float level properly? The shee puller works on the Zilla. The seal is easy to change out.

| The bike seemed to be lean when we started i went both up and down witn the jets without much change i was thinking the same thing on the crank seal sucking air up front like that would make the engine rev which it isn't . and the balancer seal was supposedly just replaced . I will inspect it better so are u saying you are leaning more to its still in the jetting . has a 175 and a 52 and needle one clip down from center. the only thing different from they way i got it is the needle was on the center clip. and fuel mixture was 60:1 he says and i changed it to 36:1 . thanks for the help hope i can get it fiquerd out. |

| If it feels boggy...Im thinking is your seals... This had happened on my lt, it would start & idle fine but when I went to rev it, it wouldnt (it would just bogg & die). I had found out that it was one of the crank seals (Clutch side). Im thinking the same as what was stated above....Stator Seal or Counter balancer seal.) BTW...60:1 is not good, 40:1 is fine with synthetic premix oils. Good Luck, Travis

| Spray Either Around The Gasket Areas. Stater Area If The Motor Revs Or Bogs The Seals Are The Issue

| can u get to the seal on the clutch side im not 100% I hate to sound stupid but im not afraid to ask questions i know i would be able to spay the seal on the stator side.does the case have to be split to get the other side out? It does bogg which would make me think it is on the clutch side because the motor does not rev out like a airleak it boggs and the plug was also dry and seemed to be burning (but was being rode just sitting) not sure if that helps .thanks again for the help. |

| Well, I can get to the clutch seal with out splitting my cases. I just have to remove the clutch case, clutch, & all the gears untill I get to the crank seal. To replace the seal I would aloow about 1 - 1 1/2 hours to do this properly. I think the lt500r is the same way. Im sure somone else can chime in & confirm.

| Well, unless you like to run your engine with zero oil, a clutch-side seal reveals itself to be bad real obviously, It smokes like a sumnabitch. Sure it'll bog, but usually dies within a couple of minutes from overloading the crankcase area in engine oil. Put in a new plug and do a plug-chop. Read the plug. Ether around the base and seal is usually the best product, I.E. starter fluid. And no, I'm not suggesting any particular problem be it jetting or other, just pointing out the different things it can be. Diagnosing a problem through a web page is hard as hell without hearing the bike, riding it, ect. What you might think it's doing, another guy thinks it's the opposite. I've worked on many bikes where the owner said it's "bogging" and it was actually cutting out from fuel starvation. Totally different things.
