Wink Milkshake Tranny Fluid? CHECK THE OTHER SIDE TOO

FYI,

I had the water pump go south 2 yrs ago, and as a result, got the milkshake mixture in the tranny. Since the repair it's been running great, but I decided to open up the other side of the engine today, to check on the flywheel & stator, making sure my 'rivets haven't come loose' on my flywheel.

Well, they haven't, so that's good news, HOWEVER, my counterbalancer shaft seal leaks a minute amount of tranny fluid into the flywheel area. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, except that it leaked in some of the milkshake 2 yrs ago, and that watery-goo sat in the flywheel area since then. Turns out the water vapor from the goo corroded the CRAP out of the flywheel, coils, and all steel hardware. It wasn't bad enough to cause removal, but I scrubbed and WD-40'd alot, and it's still not pretty.

So, beware, if you have the milkshake in the tranny, check behind your other side cover as well, and clean it out & WD-40 it if so to keep water from corroding your electrics.

That's good to know. Did you replace the seal on both sides of the counterbalancer?

yea i pull my flywheel cover regularly. i had a leaky counterbalancer seal, and i burnt out the lighting coils. behind the cover was full of oil and water. so now i always check to be sure its still dry. only use a oem seal. i tried k+s, moose and finally oem. oem was the only one that didn't leak.

Yeah, had the same prob with K&S seals. Work great on most stuff but not that balancer seal.

Yeah, I need to get an oem seal still...

So, how do you change the counterbalancer seals without disassembling the entire motor?
