Eelectrical where to begin? think I might have a short but I'm a carpenter and know very little about wiring. Any ideas?

Pull the fuel tank off and inspect all the wires and connections. How do you know it has a short? What is it doing? Get a manual with the all the wiring diagrams. 10 bucks on ebay. Its very simple and should not be hard to figure out.

Check your ground on where the coil attached to the frame & also where the wires come off/out of the stator. Try to describe what kis happening.

a common problem is the connections under the fuel tank like to wiggle loose. could also be as simple as a fouled spark plug.
