| Copper gaskets are the most "blow proof" gasket you can use. Period. They must be installed correctly to work correctly. Most people don't do it right.....they just slap them on, and try to go ride. They need a groove machined into the jug or head, and a metalic o-ring installed in the groove to properly seal the cylinder compression. As far as the water jackets go, they aren't the best at sealing water jackets. You have to use some additional sealant to keep the water jackets from weeping. I would only recommend using copper gaskets when nothing else will hold the compression. I don't see this being a problem on an 87 zilla with oversized studs, unless there is a detonation problem, or it is heavily modified and running alky, NOS, etc.... If you choose to use them, use a good sealer on them to seal the water jackets, and get the head or jug o-ringed near the cylinder, and use a metalic o-ring to create a pinch point to seal the compression. If you do all this, and do it right, and still blow copper gaskets without detonation issues, then you must be generating more cylinder pressure than a 6,000+ HP Top Fuel drag car.............since they use copper gaskets ![]() |

| I don't have a Zilla but I do have a big bore 6 bolt head w/ chronic head gasket leaks. Copper gaskets (2 different) leaked their azz off. I tried sealer too. The best gasket for me was no gasket at all. No more leaks. Test your clearence and try it.
