Default Cracked case. . . need advice!!!

Well, after a heard day of riding at Quadfest I noticed that my casr developed a crack on the left side between the swing arm. Is this common? Can it be tig welded? Also, is there any preventive measures that can be taken to make sure it doesn't happen again?

Thanks,

87 lt500

I would say that welding it may warp it....

I know this is ghetto, but have you ever thought about JB weld? Done right it really isnt bad stuff. If that doesnt work than tig it is! Worst case, you looking around for a replacement. Have you done any investigating as to why it may have broken? Were any of the motor mounts loose? Balencers on corectly? I have a zilla myself and have read tons of info and talked to many other zilla owners and have NOT really heard of anyone with this problem.

just my 0.02

if the person welding it takes there time and clamps the part up well it should warp. i recently just welded up a trx250r case. seems to be fine at this point.

i've seen a few 500 cases that crack there. its not uncommon. the swinger bearings get worn out, then the swinger bolt gets loose, frame bolt holes for the swinger bolt get oblonged and then with all that pressure on the case it cracks. the case is that last piece holding the swingerbolt in place and it can't take the pressure.
