i have a 3 inch scar on my leg from my leg being shattered in a motorcyle accident when i was a little younger. strange coincidence, the tongue of the trailer that crushed my leg was 2 inch square tubing :P i still have no feeling in my leg at that spot

the head is only a 6 bolt and they like to blow gaskets and junk all the time 88-90's are 7 bolt heads. trans gear ratios are different than 88-90's, the have a lot of cooling problems, and the 87's suffer the worst from the stator side crank seal problem. A couple more problems in addition to the problems that ALL zillas have. 90% of the itme if you come across a person that says ZIllas are pieces of junk, they probably had an 87.

There is nothing wrong with having a 87, The engine in the Minizilla is a 87. 3 years and no problems except a slipping clutch. 87's also have the ability to make more power than the 88-90's due to the larger intake.

chris that numbness in your right hand is no accident, this is commonly known as "indian rub" from many lonely nights! and to be on topic dts right the 87 were garbage compared to the rest ,the big reed makes less intake velocity and under the intake box its only a 1/8" aluminum strip around the base to prevent air leaks ,well you know the rest! most blow right under there and youll never know till its to late
unless you wanna do leak down tests before every damn ride!i know all about the 87 ive owned one ,the port work is different on them too! the 87 made less power and the bigreed power propertys (myth)are quickly outweighed by the rest of the package in there,i know cause ive ported zillas in the past and i feel suzuki really dropped the ball with the 87's to me, they relly on the steel liner to do all the intake diverting ,it really sucks ,its like taking an air gun and spraying it against a wall with holes in it ,it doesnt flow for shit .they had head gasket problems too as dt mentioned about the head studs. i had mine 1.5 yrs i bought it on the stock bore
when i sold it it was .120 over! 3 seizures and the jetting was spot on ,they are fun but very maintence intensive .heres my 87 i owned
