Default Too Much Carb?

Im thinking about getting a new carb for my 87. Im debating between either a Keihin PWK 39mm or a 44mm Lectron powerjet. Ive run lectrons before on other quads and have been very satisfied. I dont think a 39mm PWK will be a large enough carb for where I plan to go with this quad. I mean really, its not much better than what the quad has now. Then again, a 44mm might just be over kill. The zilla doesnt exactly rev, so I may never use that large a carb.

Anyone swap carbs on their zillas?

A 39 is not enough for a bunch of mods. Look in to a 41.5 at least if you plan on future mods.

Yea, I did not think so either. They are runnin 39's on 125 and 250 race bikes, so running a 44 on a 500 should not be a huge feat. The area of the carb on a 39 is 11.3 Cm2 and 15.2 Cm2 on the 44 lectron. Its a large differnce, but should be easily done on a slightly modded LT500. After mods, my goal is to get *around* 70hp on pump gas.

I suppose I could get the 39 PWK and have it bored to 42, but then it gets pretty costly as I have to pay for both the carb and the machining.

Oh, nice I did not realize the PWK came in anything larger than 39. A 41 would give me the best usable performance with the mods I am planning. Im not looking to go crazy here.

I run a 44 lectron on my 88 LT500 and would recommend it for the LT. I feel that this carb is the best out there but good luck with whatever you decide.

Yea, I was thinking that a 44 would be a good size carb for the LT500. Are you running the 44 powerjet? I know from experience that Lectron carbs, even though larger in diameter, still seem to have the throttle response of a smaller carb. Also what modifications have you done to your engine?

Thanks

It has a 87 engine with a cool head-have yet to have a problem after 4 years-and has been bored twice over. The guy I bought it from had some funky intake attached directly to the carb but I went back to the stock intake with a k&n with the lid removed. Then added the 44 lectron after a friend told me about it and will never go back to another carb. It really opened the bike up and is easy to work on.
