I got a used 89 zilla. i just redone the motor, and the clutch. i noticed that the clutch reel had some wear.so i order a new one. but it isn't the same as the one in the motor now. if u know what the reel is? oem looks a T shape. well mine is a T shape but with a ball on the top.an is 1/4inch longer then oem part. like this ol-- oem is like this l--. now could it be a Aftermarket clutch reel. if so .where can i locate one. anyone know of this. |

Yeah, the doohicky in the center of the pressure plate that works the plate is called the reel. Can't imagine why it would be different than the stock piece though. Hell, try it for fit.

yes the clutch reel rack.oem part isn't the same that is in my zilla now. the oem rack is flat. the one in my bike is flat but has a ball on it to. the ball seats in the tranny shaft.i need to find one quick. reason is the ball is worn down half way.any more it will be in the shaft that drives the trans.

i tryed to fit the new one. it had alot of play.back and forward. the one in there now has alittle play. but is from the wear on the ball. both reels are the same in size. but mine with the ball is 1/4 longer cause on the ball. someone told me it could be cause of a aftermarket clutch basket . for racing. i know it hold the correct amount of clutch disk no more or less.my book show that everything is there. nothing missing. i asked the dealers plus pr racing here. never seen a reel like this.for a zilla.so i am thinking it could be from another bike that is close to the same basket as a lt500.which i got to look for.

Hmmmmm, got me scratching my head on that one. The Suzuki listings only show the original reel available, nothing any different. Some dipshit down at the dealership probably screwed your order up.

BTW.... aftermarket baskets will usually use the original inner hub and pressure plate so theres no reason for anything to change.

can any other clutch system off any other atv street dirt bike work in the lt500?. I take that is possable where i need to find out. The rack reels look to be same size from the flat side to the end. One out of the motor has a ball that looks to be spotwelded to the flat side.

i'm pretty sure the stock one is flat with no ball on the end. i would like to see a picture of this. i don't know of any other bike that has the same clutch, but maybe the old rm490 has the same parts?

No ball on mine, I just changed the basket out and my reel doesnt sound anything like what he's describing. The ends don't even have anything to do with actuating the clutch, it's controlled by ratcheting action with the teeth cut into the side. Really, sounds more like he's describing the type of reel used in pushrod clutches like the Honda 250R.
