Thats odd. If you got it from a dealer I would take it back and have them order another one. I have two used ones if your in a bind and need one fast.

the original one i had worked okay just couldn't pass up this deal for a new one. i guess i have nothing to worry about because it works fine. slowly i'm trying to replace all the original parts with new stock or aftermarket parts. here's a picture of it. thanks for the offer anyways.

| i would maybe take some silicone and fill it in the rest of the way so you didnt have to worry about any moisture getting in there. Just to keep it on the safe side!

how do you tell if you cdi is bad, I have no spark, but when i kick it over there is power from the stater i have the rickystator. The magneto coil resistance is with in range, but no spark. the coil resistance is also fine.

a cdi rarely goes bad. but when they do theres really no way to test them. they either work or they don't. but i did have an argument with another kid on another website about tesing a cdi.

Thats just an aftermarket companies way of saving a few cents. The clear epoxy resin is a far better method of sealing a CDI than the old way which was putting them in a plastc sealed box. It doesnt look as good, but works great. And I'll argue with you, Suzuki has always made their CDI's testable. Virtually every Suzuki model from day one has had a test table in the OEM manual. If your meter is a good one and not something picked up at a local garage sale, it will be sufficient to test with regardless of suzuki's warning to only use their meter. Suzuki is far different than most, an LT125 and 185 will spark even though the CDI is bad. So will the 230 and 250 E's. The 250 and 500 R's however either spark and work or don't.

And, a weak coil will spark beautifully when attached to a battery. Use the ohms test, it's accurate.

I tried testing per section 6 in the manual, there was no reading on my meter. I know my meter works because it returned the correct results when testing the stator and the coil. Does any one know if there is any way to bypas the cdi in order to see if that is the problem. The problem arose when i was racing my borther on his new honda 450 on the pavement. I was on my 89 lt500r WOT (way out in front) and it just cut out. I though i blew the motor, but that was not the case still have good compression, than i checked for spark and there was none. Stator is good and all wires look fine I have the whole thing ripped apart now and everything looks fine just no spark. does anyone have an extra cdi for sale???
