While there might be some still out there....it's still cheaper to resleeve if you want to keep the 87 top-end. Your average good to mint cylinder will run $300-up. Thats not saying you wont find cheaper, just average. Resleeving can be done as cheap as $220 from Wiseco. They're one of the cheapest and they do excellant work. Why not look for the 88-90 top-end and not only eliminate the potential head gasket problems but make intake mods so much easier as well?

87 jug has more performance potential on the big 500 cylinder, while it does have more problems as Kane said.

That's the problem, finding one that is good enough to sleeve!

the 87's had way more problems than they had performance potential IMHO ,ive owned one and built it up too and after all my aggrevation i would have been better just dune porting and raising the compression on a 88-90 jug and blocking off the powervalve ,theres no purpose for it , after all if a 500 single cylinder 2 stroke doesnt have enough HP & torque in low- mid range than something is wrong ,the big reed makes you lose intake velocity(only good for straight line drags) ,the powervalve sucks and is just another place for carbon and shit to load up in the exhaust tract rendering it useless half the time . suzuki powervalves were designed all wrong and dont really do shizzle anyways .

I have a 87 cylinder, but it wont be cheap. It was new 3 years ago, has about 30 hours on it. new intake boot, new Cool Head, new reed cage, Wiseco piston, power valve bearings. It is std bore & has not been ported. Make me an offer.

Have the 87 reed cage welded onto 88-90 cylinder.
