and when you paint the frame do it right. i've seen to many quads where people just paint everything the same color from the overspray. frame, shocks, swingarm dirt, rust. looks like shit. make sure you strip it to the bare frame and do it right. and sandblast it to make sure there's no cracks.

This is the color I would be doing the frame and engine accents. Im still debating on the black... not sure if I want to do something more along the lines of a dark blue.

My last 500 had black plastic & a red frame. Here is a pic of it- http://www.everything2stroke.com/Pho...cat=500&page=1

Your right. The link for the plastics didnt work but I would love to see them ! Instead of paint why not powdercoat ? Stands up better than paint. Go with the black chrome. Looks great ! Check out www.nicindustries.com Cool stuff.

if you use a wire wheel and a orbital sander your gonna be at it a longtime. i've tried it it sucks. sandblasting guns are cheap and you can use play sand but black beauty works faster. i don't think the price of the quad really depends on what colors you paint it but the quality of the work. well some colors would detract but i don't think you are going to paint it a puke brown or hot pink!

Although it would be best, powder coating is really out of the question. I have priced it locally, For the frame alone, it would be about 300 dollars.

Wow !! Thats unreal ! Here local its any color you want sandblasting included , $150. If you want to strip off the paint try a product called Aircraft Stripper. It a very strong spray on paint striper that works great. It comes in a spray can and you should be able to get it at any local auto parts store. If not try a automotive paint store. Hope this helps !

Also, local for me is about 50 miles away... I cannot find any powder coaters in the remote area. At 150 for the frame, sand blasted and all, that would be prefect. But what do you estimate it would cost for the frame, engine, a-arms, hubs and swing arm? If u factor all that into the equation, its going to get expensive. All I want is a somewhat decent finish that will resist fuel. Im on a budget here, so I dont really want to exceed 200 dollars for the entire paint job. In another thread dealing with fuel proof paint, we determined that a good quality professional catalyst lacquer will get the job done and cut costs.
