Here's my opinion. Don't go with any aftermarket spur gear that isn't plastic. UNLESS, you change out several other things to metal as well. The reason...the spur gear was desinged to be used as a plastic piece to create a "breaking point" that is cheap and easy to fix. $3.00 all day long at any hobby store or on the net. If you replace it with a steel one, guess what....if something needs to give a little it's going to be your transmission gears or other expensive parts instead of the cheap, easy spur gear. Just buy you a couple extra and keep them in your toolbox. It' common for them to strip occasionally, but they were designed to do that. It protects all of the more expensive gears and other parts. Traxxas has an awesome tech support phone number and they can help you with this as well. Don't be afraid to call them. Hell, they even sent me a spur gear for FREE!
When you get another spur gear, post on here and I'll help you set the clearances correctly. Later

i got the other spur gear i just took it off the long way.. I was being dum.. i took off the rear shock tower.. gas tank.. and ez-start.. i got it all back together with a plastic one from a local hobby shop.... but if traxxas cant make stonger gears than that its not funny i have my rc10gt's slipper so it doesnt slip its direct drive ill take it and run wide open and sling it around the get on the gas while its backwards ive done this for 2 years know and it hasnt even faised the plastic gear...

but i see what your saying about the plastic spur gears braking to save the tranny.. i already have metal gears in the tranny.... and the only reason i didnt get an aluminum one was becuase it was $20 and i only have $17

That's good that you're getting it going again. The most important thing is to make sure your gear mesh is correct. Place a piece of notebook paper between the spur gear and the clutch bell, then slide the motor over to press the two gears togther with the paper between them still. Tighten the motor down and finally remove the piece of paper. This will give you the proper mesh. Without the proper mesh....strip, strip, strip.

yeh i know how to do pretty much everything with these cars and slot cars..... i have a slot car dragster the frame on this thing cost me $120 for DNA slot car frames and the motor was built from a bunch of my old wing car motors... well ill skip all the techno stuff and go ahead and tell you that it runs 120 feet in 1.26 sec. at 73 mph.. know remeber that speed came from a car about the length of your hand( not including the wheelie bars...) its just a black blur you drive

key thing to remember, the RC10Gt only weigh's about 4 pounds if that, and the maxx weigh's in around 8.5-9 pounds, so thats alot of stress on that wimpy little gear if the slipper is to tight!! But if you realy need the best spur setup on the market run what the big dogs run on the .21 and up maxx trucks. Get a strobe's slipper system, it is machined out of aluminum and use's the ofna 51 tooth spur, you would have to run 1/8 clutch bell 16-18 tooth. When I did that mod on my truck some years back I was running a moddified Outlaw Picco .26 in my fully loaded 11.5 pound tmaxx, I never had a problem again!! Its a bit spendy but if you ever upgrade to a bigblock motor it would be one of the best mods you can make. Go to www.unlimitedengineering.com and find strobe. I know just about everything there is to know about maxx related trucks as well as most of the aftermarket parts. Ive owned 15 tmaxx trucks in the past 5 years, and have bought just about every part there is for them!!
