Hillsville.......might be open soon!!!!

Well, I went to a zoning meeting today to support the proposal of Hillsville being reopened for legal riding. The problem is that the ground is industrial zoned and it needs to be changed to commercial. The meeting started and they did some stuff to reinstate the officers for 2006 then told everyone the hearing wouldn't start until 6:30. So we waited for 25 minutes and channel 21 interviewed my buddy who is for the idea, and then they interviewed a bunch of other people who are against. It was amazing how many people were there that were against it who were signin petitions and trying to argue with us the whole time. When 6:30 rolled around the solicitor stood up and told us that the owner withdrew the proposal and the hearing was canceled. Everyone was pissed for sitting there for 45 minutes and learning nothing. We're hoping he'll put another application in and actually follow through with it. Until then we will continue to ride there, and hope that maybe we'll be able to ride there without hassle sometime soon. I'll keep you guys updated if anything else happens.

Yes its illegal, but no one really cares. A few residents complain about noise issues and complain. The cops don't care too much unless they get too many complaints and then they try to patrol, but there can be up to 100 people there on any weekend. The owner obviously doesn't care because he's trying to get it llegal. We're for getting it llegal because people have been coming in and dumping their garbage and burning stolen cars. If Hillsville is opened, we can get the liter cleaned up, keep the trails nice, and keep the criminal activity out.

that suck that it was, turned down, I can get a bunch of riders to show up at the next meeting, if you would like or we can sign a pation. This needs, to be dun if you charged addmission you would make a tun, since wellsville is a gonner now...

i think every town needs one completely legal place to ride. i hated getting bitched at constantly for riding on places i use to have permission to ride on before the guy sold the land. It gets people off the roads and help the police out alot too.

I haven't heard anything on the issue lately. Not sure if the owner of the land is going to try to get it open or not.

Unfortunately any land owner with half a brain is not going to "allow" public riding on his/her land. The liability insurance to cover his ass in the event somebody gets hurt and sued would definitely kill the idea for most people. Unless they've got more money than brains... then they would probably be all for it.

That's why most people who do allow it try to keep it on the down-low... they don't want to be on the record as saying they permit public use of their land.

I don't think money is an issue for the guy trying to open up Hillsville. Anyone around western Pa has probaly heard of the proposal for opening a horse track up. This guys family is behind one of the proposed tracks aka Bedford Downs. One good thing is that he seems to not really care that we are riding there. I guess the cops have taken it into their own hands to try to keep people out because of all the residents complaining in the surrounding area about dust and noise.

I'm curious as to what the dumb ass reasons were that they were against it. I mean the people against it probably had NOTHING to do with the place.

There where people there that live 5 miles away from they quarries, didn't even live in the same township, and they were complaining about dust, noise, and all the atv's and bikes on the road. One thing they were complaining about, I can agree with. Some people from Ohio have been coming in to Hillsville in the middle of the night and riding through people's yards. I know I wouldn't be to happy if a couple 450's with aftermarket exhaust went tearing through my yard at 3 in the morning. Other than the few that are riding at night and giving us a bad rep, I don't see why they are so upset about letting us ride there.
