| If the belt is bad it may have jumped, becareful with that stuff you can mess alot of stuff up on the top end. Have you checked your rear coil springs???? I dont know how many escorts and contours Ive seen with broken springs, usually on the back.

| 99% timing belt..it is a non interferance engine...timing belts on those are a cake walk to install...takes me about 40 minutes to do one. i used to have one of those back in the day..great gas mileage.

| so where do ya line up the cam sprocket to as of right know when ya crank it over the cam and crank both turn so maybee the springs did brake but it seems easy enoulf to check the timing sence i already got the cover off and did ya mean rear ekhoust valve springs couse i have killer spark at the plugs and it cant be any harder then timing a 2.7 dodge intrepid

| I meant rear coil springs,,,on the suspension,,,,off topic sorry but its very common. Both gears should turn, Im not familar with escorts but there should be identifying marks on the gears that have to point at each other, but first you need to get the engine to cyl 1 TDC compression in order to time it right. Anybody correct me if Im wrong 4 bangers arent my thing Im just using V-8 ideas, which should be close to the same process, unless its DOHC then theres an extra gear, and those are a pain to get right and still get the belt on.
