Pictures of an M88A1's engine

I figured some of you would find this interesting. Its a V-12 aircooled Detroit, twin turbo(as picture shows, with 1790 cubic inches of displacement. It runs the M88A1 recovery wehicle. They actually have to put a screen in the turbochargers so curious students dont get their hand sucked in.

I was under the impression that the M88 was a gas powered Recovery Vehicle, and the improved M88A1 was the diesel version which was powered by a Continental (General Dynamics) AVDS-1790-2DR with an Allison X Drive Tranny pushing out about 750HP.

Then they moved to the M88A1E1 (improved M88A1)
Then the M88A2 Hercules which ran on a JP-8 1050HP powerplant

you are correct tech. The engines are goverened at 750 tho. they use the same engines in the M-48 AVLB. There maybe an updated version of that also but i have no clue.
