Default ?? regarding 2 stroke engine and potential prob.

Whats up gang?! Ok, so no biggie here, just a question for you gearhead pros. Premise: Stuck in mud on a MX bike, back wheel not spinning(Cuz im stuck) yet im revving in gear to trying to get out. I smelled some rather "burning" while this is going on. At any rate, got it out, rode around for a bit and all seemed "ok". Question is this: What is being stressed and potentially burning out while the back wheel is stuck yet in gear and revving?? Thanks for all input!

Ok, so ill assume a new clutch soon. With that, how do you know your clutch is going bad? Can any of you describe symptoms in a clutch going bad?

look at your plates they ll be all glazed up and warped and discolored perhaps.
youll know if its slipping itll be a high reving dog off the bottom of the powerband and wont have that fun ass 2 stroke punch you used to have .get a tusk clutch from rockey mountain for 30$ for your rm .they are excellent quality and as good as barnett or ebc .
that rotten burnt smell is your clutch fibers actually starting to burn against your plates and inner basket !

If you get the manual it will tell you the specs on a clutch plate measure them up and see. I would drain your oil and see how that looks my guess is you will have a lot of shavings in your oil. Might not be noticable though. Really the only way is to measure the plates to be totally sure. You should be able to tell by the way it pulls. If you dump the clutch with a high rev it should damn near throw you back. If it doesn't have a snap then it is slipping and you need to replace

Oh and its better to replace than let it ride because you can do a lot of damage to the clutch basket and all of that.

another way to check is to pull your brakes in,put in 1st gear then rev your bike up and slowly let out the clutch lever completely while brakes are applied if it stalls your clutch is doing its job if it still runs fine then your clutch is probably toast!
