hay i have a question what is it called when people drill holes on the exhaust side of the piston what is that and what are the improvements of it

it is to allow oil on the bridges of the exhaust port. some pistons come with them some don't. if you have exhaust bridge you need those holes to cool and lubricate.

this off another post flow tec wrote this good stuff
the holes are there for lubricating and cooling the bridge ,if they are not present the rate of thermal expansion of the bridge will be different than the bore coeffecient this will cause it swell out in relationship to the bore reducing clearance and may (and will) cause a seizure ,theres an important reason for it i have personaly see n expensive seizures fro m not having them drilled out i n the piston on late model quadracers before
