wont idle

i got a polaris sportsman 500 and it wont stay running unless its at 1860rpm on the tack is there any way to fix that and when it is there it inches forward was going to try a new plug any other idesa aprecheated

well are you too rich? thats what will usally cause it not to idle untill idle is turned way up.

i havent check the plug yet it my bosses and it had alot of handy cap shit on it that was removed so im going to check the plug then all the wiring and hoses shouldnt be that hard it also changes when ya wiggle the throtal cable so it might have a loose carb top does it have a air idle screw someware on it im new to the polaris 4x4 world

if the plug looks good check the carb for junk......you might want to invest in a carb rebuild kit....also make sure captain obvious ain't killing ya (air filter, gas quality, loose wires, idle screw)

top of the carb where the cable goes in....also make sure the cable is adjusted right at the throttle

okay... i do believe the sportsman is a 4 poke...

so IMO it is one of the following.

1.) clogged air filter (if it's those fucking paper things do me a favor and BURN IT!!! then pick up a K&N)
2.) Carb has a improper ajustment... (being a 4 poke don't think it would be that as much)
3.) dirt or junk in bowl
4.) stuck valve.... (biggest bitch in the world)

If it had a stuck valve it wouldnt run at all. If it stops when you wiggle the throttle cable then replace the cable and/or check the little box on top of hte handle bars that the cable goes into for dirt or sand blocking up the cable.

actually some Sportmans were made 2 stroke. I dont think the 500's were tho but my buddys dad owns a 400 and its a two stroke. Same engine thats on the Xplorers. We even raced them one day in a field. Good times
