| Hey all, new guy here with a few questions. I was given a sled yesterday its a 1983 Polaris 440 Indy Trail with a Figi Motor(432) I have been looking for Wiring Diagrams for the ignition system as the way it is wired it looks a little shoddy..... also how the hell do you set up carbs for this make, it has 2 carbs with only one set-screw per carb ??? the sled 2 years ago had a little crank case leak, so it was dismantled and rebuild with new seals, bearings pistons ect........... I was given the sled and I looked at it a little made a few tweaks and made sure everything was tight and after 90 or so pulls from not having gas in it she started sputtering until screwing with the carbs for a while and trying to look through the fog covered garage it started to run, but it had a little backfire at first and then was just a rough idle at approx 1600 RPM. how do you tell that the oil inject is working correct ? and the carb thing, is there any basic way to set them up ? and if I can get some kind of thermometer how hot should the head be while idling for about 5 mins ??? thanks in advance for any information sent this way !!!!!! |

| well welcome to the site, first thing i'd recomend is finding a set of newer mukini's or kehin's for it.. i believe that one screw is the air adjustment? normal idle is around 1k-1600. sounds like your carbs arn't sync'ed. the oil injection is connected to the reeds or into the motor? (i'm used to the liberty twins) as for the head temp.. i have no clue. only way i know how to measure it is exhaust temp... (between 1100 - 1300 degrees F at full throttle) 6" from head. you can get exhaust probes (recomended) or they make a like stick on thing that you can put on the pipe to measure the heat of the pipe (results will vary with that one) for more info i'd recomend www.hardcoresledder.com great group of guys that know their shit about sleds and some are polaris mechanics
