 Newbie needs help I have a 1985 polaris 2x4 pull start. I no its an oldie but ita all i can do right now. Anyway everytime i go to start it it backfires out the carb. It takes for ever to get it started but when i do it runs great . Cant figure out why it does that . 2 after i run around with it for a while i shut it off it wont start .I have to let it sit for a bit then back to the drawing board. Let it backfire for a bit then it will run.CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT ON THIS      |

| The carb needs adjustment, and gap or replace the plug. Check compression, and retorque the head while your at it. That narrows down the possible problems.

| yea...sounds like it needs some basic tuneing. definately sounds like carb issues. oh and welcome to the site.

| Check if the exhaust is plugged.Maybe there is a rats nest in there lol.

| you may need to rebuild the engine, my trailblazer did the same thing when it needed a rebuild. |

| I have one of them to. The fist quad I ever owned and now its like part of the family. I would try and pull the air box or the tube and hold your hand over the back of the carb. Make sure your spark plug wire is of and have a friend pull it over for you. You should feel a vacuum. If there is than I would check the plug and clean the carb. If you don’t feel any vacuum then pull the carb and look in the cylinder to see if the piston skirt is broken. Let us know how you made out. Dave
