Default Reed Cage Polaris Cyclone?

Hello guys. I am going to be buying a 1987 polaris cyclone. But the atv has no reeds in it and last the guy had it running it was backfireing and now will not start. The intake off the jug is a circle shape intake. If this doesn't require reeds than how does it do its buisness without them? Please help thanks

Alot of the early 2strokes had non reed valve intakes and had a different port design making them more of a low end power engine.

Oh, Alright. If it was backfiring quite abit and than wouldn't start, What do you think it could be? It has compression, Air, and spark.. Most be the carb if it will start by spraying start fluid into it?

Sounds like maybe a sheared flywheel key causing the timing to be off or possibly a stator problem.

id check out the carb before i tore it all the way down to the mag

u got one of the nicests 250r ive ever seen i like them fast but not so flashy you cant ride them or crash them

The 4 wheeler had a truck fuel filter on it that we bypassed as it prolly doesn't have any suckion and would prolly cause it a lack of fuel? But we took that off and it is still backfiring? Will take a look at flywheel key. What are signs of it being sheered?

i would pull off the side cover look for a n indent on the flywheel mark where it is and then pull off the flywheel. if the line rhat you made dosent m,atch up with the indent or keway on the crank than its sheered. make shure trhat you dont turn the motor over. try cleaning out the carb first though and does it have an override button on the handelbars. if so push that button and see if it runs if it does jump the 2 wires.

its probably a piston port engine, no reeds there, like your weedwacker or chainsaw
