The problem with the US's oil is most of it isn't in crude oil form, it is in the form of oil shale. And the process of mining oil shale and refining it into oil is a very dirty process and costly.

Oh yea, the electric lotus i saw on that "future cars" show. I looked up the stats and its pretty impressive. Claims to get about 220 miles per charge with a 3.5-ish hour charge time or a 2 hour charge time if you only drove 100 miles. Oh and peak torque from 0rpm has always made me horny.

But its only 2 seats and has next to no trunk space(enough for a bag of clubs at most). I guess if you drive it only in a city area to work and such, you could probably pull it off. But it cant really replace anything atm.

so you say we are far from any oil supply shortage?. every once in a while I read about some headline report on oil and gas prices on yahoo's homepage, and usually it talks about the ever increasing price is a result of "supply shortages" and stuff like that. you sound like your pretty educated on this subject, so I'll ask and tell you my opinion aswell. if there is no real supply shortages for oil, then why do the gas prices keep increasing without any one in the government trying to put their foot down and say "what the hell?!?". my guess is that the oil companies have put their hands fairly deep in the honey jar of money and have gotten quite a taste for it.......and keep reaching deeper and deeper with out getting stung ( prices keep increasing with out any bad affects for the companies themselves). and they know that they can keep increasing their prices because we will keep buying it and just whine about the price more as it keeps going up..........but we're not actually doing anything about it.

The whole oil thing is just a big money game being played by the government. We have been having "oil shortages" since the 70's? Each time prices goes up and we don't run out of oil. I mean hell, last thing i heard(haven't really been watching the news recently) the Saudi's were going to give like 2000 free barrels of oil per day for a month or some shit.... Its not because they have oil and we don't... its because WE have money and are threatening to stop buying as much as we are because of this "shortage"....that doesn't exist.

In my honest opinion the oil "shortage" would be non existent if the EPA and everyone involved were shot in the face. The EPA is whats preventing us from drilling in Alaska.... Preventing us from doing more Off-shore drilling. Even tho we have proven we can safely deal with oil in Alaska and not harm the nature, Just look at the Pipe-line that runs through Alaska.


The Pipe-line is nuts by the way, first the raised it so wouldn't be in "natures" way and wouldn't thaw the tundra or w/e, it then has these layers to prevent leakage and damage to the wildlife. The layers also have this heating element built in so the center of the oil doesn't gel up since the other oil soaks up most of the heat. Sorry, i think its pretty cool >.>


Anyways, this was mostly opinions based off facts i guess but opinions none the less.

ha 4 bucks thats it ?? i own a flooring company and drive a f 350 4 door dually powerstroke turbo diesal which gets around 12 per gallon with out the programmerpulling my 12 foot box trailer and deisal is 5.10 a gallon here i spend alot of money on gas a week it take 170 bucks to fill my truck and do it twice a week

About the supply of oil in the ground and the price of gas is not related. There is more oil in the ground than they probably even know. Oil supply "shortages " is refering to refined oil. Do you know that scientists have descovered what they believe is the largest pocket of oil ever discovered on land under North Dakota. Do you also know that China is drilling for oil right off our coasts in the area where our gov. wont let our companies drill.

The electric car I believe is also dead weight. You have to recharge the car which takes oil or coal or some other energy source to do. I like the idea of the car that Penn State built. Runs on compressed air. Will run 300 miles on one tank and only takes minutes to refill, not hrs to recharge. Still uses the other energy sources to run a compressor but its more practical for everyday use
