| My girlfriend purchased me a back up cylinder head from ebay.It has some holes in the dome area.Is it possible to bore them out or is the cylinder garabage right now.Thanks....

| sure yo u can rework the squish band and dome but this wouldnt pretai nto the cylinder at all ,not sure i understand your thread

| what i am trying to say is there are dents and dings from detonation.The cylinder is fine the head i purchased as a back up has the dings and i did not no if the dings can be smothed out or does it matter?

| most cases you can skim cut deep enough to take them out. You need to also need to make sure that you have enough or not too much squish clearance. When you do that you may also need to recut the dome to maintain the proper compression for the gas you are using. you do need to address the pits before you bolt it on. any eratic point in the combustion chamber is a spot for increased heat or a hot spot which could "promote" detenation or uncontrolled burn. same goes for if you ever strip out your spark plug hole and replace it with helicoil. there is a hot spot where the helicoil and the head meet. no good for a race motor and since the zillas are detenation prone (the offset plug only compounds the problem) you should be as careful as possible. hope this helps |
