Default 2-stroke riders, you'll love this

Motocross racing, not a rookie anymore...remember that

I've almost come to a finish on my first season of racing this new hybrid crf450. The quad's engine is built by Baldwin with a piston, cam, porting, and piping.

Anyway, i've come to the conclusion that racing a 4-stroke costs a shit load of time more than a 2-stroke. Race-to-race, i get more reliablility out of my 4-stroke, but as the season progresses, i find that the 4-stroke takes alot of careful dedication. The engine runs no problem, thats not the issue. Instead, changin the oil every 3 races, along with the oil filter, gets expensive. Also, i put new valves in the head before the season, and with 3 races to go, i am finding that they need adjusting again.

However, on the upside (major upside), the motor is an absolute powerhouse! Heavily ported shee's arent anything on the straigt's, and that something i honestly didn't think it could do. Also, i pull 2nd gear holeshots, and i only have to shift twice on the straights. In the corners, i can put in 3rd, and just power through them like mad.

I guess the point of this thread was just to validate what most you guys are saying. 4-strokes are a pain in the ass to keep tip-top shape in racing, but if you got the time and money to do it, they can run laps around older technology

yes the are very expensive to maintain but when u do it right it pays off with all that power...but id rather stick 2 a 2 stroke and change topends every 60 hours instead of adjusting valves every 10....

Personally i like two strokes because of the maintaince. Sure a new rebuild cost money but damn i love rebuilding topends. I like when my buddies blow there top-ends. Gives me something to do in my freetime.

One thing i noticed about 4-pokes. This that everything is fucking expensive. Look at Exhaust for one.

yea, especially the dual exhaust crf 250's. And if you thought banshee pipes were expensive, check out exhaust for one of these .

but I think the big bore 4 stroke race bikes do have more power than the 250 2 strokes. the biggest 4 stroke i've ever ridden was a yz426f. man that thing had power, I was almost scared to jar down on er too hard, even out in an open field. but I rode one of these before I've ever got to ride a 250 2 stroke, and when i did it impressed me some, but not near as much as that 426. but that big 426 pig was sure heavy, and a bitch to start if you stalled it.

Newer technology isn't always better technology.BTW a 4 stroke engine is NOT new technology, it's just what they put in new quads these days.......
