| The clutch was on a new bike only rode once before he had it ported. The clutches are not that bad just the springs are way to week, not enough clamping force. When is say change carbs I mean seriously change, like 35's or 4's. The stock carbs seem to run great up to a point. Why run an egt. You should be able to jet entirely on feel. Thats not a personal attack either just a contradiction to the whole plug color crap. I have never found a egt to be worth it since the exhaust gas temp is hotter than the cylinder anyway. Why not just mold a temp guage into the return line to the radiator and use some simple thermodynamics to get a feel of lean or not. The stock head is ok. It actually cools fine it just has a poor shaped combustion chamber and most places want almost what you can by a cool head for to do it. Not that a cool head is the best way to go. There are so many heads. I dont know how you jet out there but all the banshee's I've done and the one's from the guy I learned from are running 360's at the leanest. Most are running 380's which is probably a touch fat but not much. Hell my old banshee ran a 330 with pipes and 1mm raised exhaust and that was it. When it got to about 60 degrees,a short shift up to 5th would create an abnormal bog so it wasnt very fat. I know the crank will walk in anything mine 250 is welded, but undeniably the banshee is famous for it. You just never know what it will do so why risk it just weld it. Seriously no beer needed, but if your buying Boulevard wheat lol. I have no problem with you at all flattrack. None, every builder gets set in his ways. Personal experience. I'm trying to avoid that the most that I can by always trying something a little different each time, especially to my bike. I just dont appreciate words being put in my mouth so to speak, eh umm LT's and YFZ's being the fastest hahahahahah. Ok right. Your right about the fourstrokes though, I just did a raptor what a pain in the ass. I'll take another z400 anyday over that raptor head. Last edited by fiveOnick; 01-18-2005 at 06:08 PM. |

| Seat of pants isn't my way of jetting thats about as accurate as a 10 yo doing it...There are way to many variables in using Thermodynamics to be accurate (type of coolant length of Radiator hose type of material slight restrictions in coolant system just to name a few) ..An ETG is not going to read actual Cly temp any ways it is reading the exhaust temp at the end of the flame cone...Witch is the most accurate location to read from I have one mounted on all my bikes not the digital led ones either . IT gives me instant readings so that i can tell what a motor is doing , On my race quads I jet what most people would call on the lean side I call it the side of Optimum performance, So I can catch any change what so ever with a ETG before it dose any damage, or any need to change between Heats or even the slightest air leak. Example If I'm running at 3/4 throttle and am jetted to run in the 1080-1100 Deg F range and it climbs to 1100+ then I have to do a Quick leak down test and if nothing shows then re jet for conditions..OR just re jet if I'm short on time, This cant be done as Quick and accurate with A Thermo unit , or any ones ass,,,,

i rode the piss (and i mean i rode hard) out of my shee on the mx track and such, its a 2000 still on the stock clutch and crank AND bore (still has around 130-135 psi)... no clutch, crank or carb problems here. you can go kick it 2 times at most and it'll bust right off and run like the champ that it has proven to be. if you know how to maintain your quad (not saying that you don't) and keep running good lubes stock stuff is not so bad. BUT now that wade is getting my top end soon for some good ol' drag porting and head work it will be getting its FIRST top end, a better crank, clutch, etc., in 5 (FIVE) years. so to prove my speech, i can even get wade to take pictures of how good of shape my stock 5 year old motor is in when he gets it. ![]() |
