Red face MX should I race?

Hey guys. Well my friend was talking to a guy at a MX track the other day and found out there starting summer races this Thursday night. He said that most of the racers there are beginners (just trail riders like me) and about 8 were pros racing out there. They made a trail around the triples and everything to try to promote beginners. I was wondering what you guys think about this? Do you think I should start MX racing or practice more. I've ridden trails for about 4 years and have only been on a MX track once. Do I need more practice or should I just go for it and hope like hell no one lands on me?

I say go for it man, the earlier you start the better. Just cause your racing doesn't mean you have to try and win, just ride at your level and have a good time.

Exactly...

I don't go out to races with ANY ideas of winning! I love to ride, I love competition, and just the feeling of being at the races is something that I can't put into words... but it's addictive. I get all anxious, butterflies, and psyched up.

So, just show up, get out there and do it. For me it's a damn good feeling just to finish and hopefully NOT in last place!!

I frequent a local MX track in Crossville, TN. Lucky for us it is one of the few tracks that also allow ATV's to race. Many tracks don't allow them at all. Anyway, I was there for practice yesterday for the race this coming weekend. Talk about a quality way to spend a weekend, even for a family. I was there with my 10yr old daughter yesterday (she is the real racer), and on race weekends my 3 yr old son and wife also go. Don't be scared to take that plunge-everyone else had to start somewhere too. Who knows-you may be the one to get on the track and dominate!! All in all, most everyone I have met is there to have a good time, and most will bend over backwards to help you if they can. Just remember to try and return the favor when they need it and you'll do fine.

I have been thinking about starting some MX riding this weekend the closest track I know of is open for practice. This is the first I have heard of the place but I went and looked at it, and it looks real nice. I was also a little uneasy about not really having a lot of experience but I guess you gotta start somewhere
