2005 Baja death

As some of you may know, the 2005 baja 1000 wraped up early this week, but diretly following, there was a tragic accident. A small plane carrying trophy truck racers Jason and Josh Baldwin and 2 others died when the plane crashed into the waters off of Dana Point. For more info, click here

While many of you may not know who these people were, they were part of the racing community. Some people question why racers enter the dangerous baja 1000 cuz of the risk, but this accident goes to show, when its your time, its your time. The team finished 13th overall (don't quote me, not positive) and the race itself went without many glitches. However, after the team raced 708.80 miles through the desert of baja mexico, they jumped on a plane and died. Ours thoughts go out to the Baldwin family and the baja community.

Very sad. It just goes to show that you can do a dangerous sport and the little things that people do everyday is what will get you in the end. My prays go out to the Baldwin family.

That is horrible. Many racers have been killed in planes and helicopters. It's odd how people say flying is so safe and driving is not. Yes, I know the statistics say you're more likely to be in a car crash than a plane crash, but if my truck's engine dies I just coast off to the side of the road. If a plane's engine dies, there's a good change its passengers will die. I like my chances on the ground.

so true. I have been riding for 6 years (ish) and have never broken a bone. A buddy of mine is a nintendo fanatic and he has gotten injured playing backyard football. He has also been struck by lightning, and this weekend he got in a car wreck. And they say RACING is dangerous, hell, living is more dangerous.

Thats so sad, My thoughts and prayers go to their families. I agree with you crazyracer, when people tell me riding ATV's are dangerous I tell them living is dangerous, everything we do is killing us so I might as well enjoy it while I last!!!!

I heard about the accident during the winners party. Do you know what the names of the crew members are? Do you participate in the baja or did you hear about the crash in news?

Its been a while since i read the articles, so i do not remember the other's names. Just do a google search on it and you'll find a ton of info. Also, i do not race baja, I am roughly 3000miles away. I just have dreams and aspirations to move out west and work in an off-road shop. I won't be racing baja for at least another 6 years.

I don't race it yet but I work for all the score races. Wednesday I'm going to laughlin for the laughlin race. I was at the meeting when Sal Fish announced the plane crash. Sal is the owner of score. This last race, the 1000, I met some racers that were from from up north, they had one of the only 2 stroke quads entered in the race. They were racing a 250R but I think it had a big bore kit in it.
