Inspecting quad front shocks when trying to buy

I want to buy some new front shocks.
The ones I want to look at are Works triple rate for 400ex.
The guy says there is no nitrogen in them.

What should I be looking for to know when not to buy shocks?
Can I compress them without the nitro in them and tell if they need to be rebuilt?

I guess I am mostly concerned about internal wear or damage.

Pitted or rusted shafts is are not good along with the other obvious signs of external damage.

easy way to tell if it has no nitrogen in it is WITHOUT the springs compress the shock and it should not rebound very quickly.

next is to figure out why they don't have nitrogen.. due to him letting it out or if there's a leak in the bladder or seals...

does the shock's have a rezzi's?

they have rezi's but he went and posted um on ebay.
