Sleds like that arent worth doing anything to because you can port and polish it and mill the head and its still going to be slow. Its a safari which is basically the luxury snowmobile of the day so the clutches are tuned for slow speeds and lugging weight up hills and its geared to do that. The chain and chaincase isnt designed to take more power. Its better to get a newer sled like a 583 or something.

well if you want to do some things after the porting do some work with the clutches. put different springs and weights in it to get it to work more like you want it...either give it more torque down low or get it so it will rev out better on top. if you get split weights (think thats what they are called) iv heard they give you torque down low and top end speed, thats what i have to work with on my 340&440 invaders for the vintage drags since im running the stock class.

yea what i do for my 340 and new(to me it is) 440 invaders is i drag them in the vintage classes. this 340 really was a fast one when we had the clutches set up right, in top speed that 340 would walk all over the indy 500 that i have. down a road i was following my cousin, he had my 340 and i had the indy and he just left me. im gonna love what kind of power that 440 is gonna have as soon as i get new pistons into it. i dont know what kawi did to their snowmobile motors, but they packed alot of power into them. but my brother tuned the clutches for a more trail friendly ride, now its got a better take off but not as much top end. last year i got beat by another 340 invader and a 340 polaris, but this year im back with a better track and probility some clutching changes, last year all i did was spin all the way down the strip where the other people hooked up after only about 40-50 feet. i should do better this year with the new track.

just ask snowmobile clubs and they are usally publicized in the paper too. but if thats the fastest snowmobile under 440cc that you have ever driven...i think you need to drive a kawi 340 invader.
