Well this is a direct quote from "The Collecters Guide to Ski-Doo Snowmobiles" by Phillip J. Mickelson (Iconografix)... Probably one of the best publications on ski-doo snowmobiles ive ever read but here goes. This is about a guy who threw a rod thru the crankcase. "As the story goes, the engine was locked up solid with the rod hanging out through the badly broken crankcase. In his shop, the owner pulled the engine apart, sawed off the crankcase between the cylinders and, using his vice, presssed the PTO end of the crankshaft onto the right half of the MAG side crank half. He mounted the carburetor on the MAG side cylinder, cut down the fan shrouds and made himself a single-cylinder version of the axial fan cooled engine!!" Thats ski-doo for you haha

a polaris can have one piston runnin and one piston not workin and the one good one will power both the pistons...thats really tough to run two pistons on one spark plug! so i really dont get what the point of this thread is!

Yeah well almost any sled made with a twin cylinder will run on 1 piston. If you fould a plug it will run on one piston but it will run like absolute crap. There isnt a motor company around that hasnt had a motor made by them throw a rod or something like that. I highly doubt that you could do that with a polaris motor because fuji motors from the early 80s are absolute crap. Their crankcases were very weak in certain points and they would crack and their liquid cooling systems had more problems than the new polaris fusions. Im not saying all polaris sleds from the early 80s suck, there were a few that were built OK but they definetly took their share and everyone elses share of problems. The other sled brand that was good back then was arctic cat with the el tigres (i think from this time period) they were nasty race sleds when they were all done up.

man my dad has had polaris from the 80's and nothin was wrong with them. and im sure that it was because the liquid cooled engine didnt come out to long before that.

Liquid cooling wad debuted on race sleds in the early 70s. It wasnt a new thing.. polaris just couldnt get it right until they must have gotten a new designer or something. Theres a 80s maybe early 90s Polaris indy 400 L/C in my yard right now thats the kids up the street thats been to a polaris dealer about 20 times in the past month for repairs on that crap motor. Its basically a whole new motor and it still dosetn run right. Im going to find him a nice ski-doo mxz 583 from the mid 90s for about 1,500$ he wants me to and he'll buy it so anyone got anything?
