Exclamation Another option besides the "Husk Kit"!!

CHECK THIS OUT!!!

Here are some pics of my “Toomey Stage IV’s” (or maybe “Trinity T-5’s”) for my Banshee!! *LOL* I donno... anyway, They are a somewhat of a hybrid I guess. They are regular T-5 pipes and silencers with the sparkys Trinity makes for their Stage IV pipes! They required an awful lot of modification (and some minor modification to the silencers as well) to get the sparkys to fit inside the silencer, but I think the time spent was well worth it.

Pic of unmodified Trinity Sparkys:

Not only does it make your T-5’s legal for areas that are very strict on having spark arrestors, they also serve to knock a few decibels off the tone of the T-5’s for areas that enforce the sound levels as well. And of course they’re still pretty trick looking!!! I LOVE how they came out!! I have not done any official testing on them yet, but it does make a noticeable difference in the sound! Regular T-5’s alone put out about 99 dbA. These won’t quiet them nearly as much as the Hush Kit, but probably drops it to the low to mid 90’s, making it legal for most areas. (Here in Cali. The limit is 98dbA, so I’m more than covered!)

Trinity also claims a slight horsepower increase on their Stage IV pipes with these... I haven’t been able to tell of any difference on the T-5’s, but I’ve only had my T-5’s about a week and I performed this mod BEFORE I actually installed them. So I’m still getting used to the new power band anyway. I plan to have my Shee dynoed and test the sound output with a sound level meter, so I’ll have the exact results of these test to post in the future!!

In total, I spent about 10-12 hours, over a couple days, to complete the mod on both silencers (I did it all myself using typical shop tools). That time includes a "quick" polish on the silencers and sparkys as well. Installation took less time on the second sparky do to some trial and error on the first one! I have many pictures of the process as well, so I may do an "official" write-up once I get them sound tested and dynoed.

So Tell me... What do you think of my Sparky’s?!?! I’d like to hear your opinions! Is this something other T-5 owners may be interested in?!?

I was able to get a decent discount from Trinity on the sparkys for trying something new! S.Toomey and Trinity were both very interested in this mod and had allot of good things to say! Keep an eye out, you may see one or the other producing them in the future!
If you’re interested in giving it a try, I’d be more than willing to answer any questions!!

From THIS.....

TO THIS....

I've changed the color sceme of my Banshee, so Here's a new look at her!

Patent that shit before Trinity or Toomey does. Looks good I'm always happen to see people willing to fabricate. With 2-strokes we are all going to need to fab shit someday.

Hey! That's cool! Whatever works for you... I just know a few people who'd like some other alternatives! Plus, I think the idea of actually fabricating somethin myself that looks good and actually WORKS is totally Cool!!! I like the "attention gewtting factor" of the 90+ dbA too!

Default First Test Results!

First Sound Test Results!!

Okay, I know I didn't quite do this correctly... I didn't have time to pull the quad out into the open and level it out and all that stuff (and I couldn't find the actual test procedures online yet), so I just did a quick test in the Garage with my new SPL meter.

I did find the proper procedures and specs to PROPERLY test it, but I'll do that later! This is just the preliminaries.

OK, I Tested this at IDLE!
With Sparkys OFF (original configuration) at Idle, it tested @ 92dbA
With Sparkys ON (new configuration) at Idle, it tested @ 86dbA

That's 6dbA of NOISE REDUCTION!!! WOoo-hooo!!

I tested it exactly the same way both times so I figure thats fairly accurate. However, since I did not use the correct procedure to test it by USFS standards, the sound levels may be actually be somewhat different (higher or lower, I donno), but I imagine the results will be similar! T-5's usually register at about 99dbA with the original configuration, so I'm expecting it to be about 93-94dbA once I test it correctly.

I'll Let you know!!

Great idea. They look good. A lot better than the ridiculous looking hush kit. Trinity's pipes, especially the silencer endcaps look really good. I thought about getting a Trinity pipe for my LT, but I didn't. It's awesome that Trinity gave you a discount for trying something new too.

It looks like they took a end cap strait off a fourstroke exhaust and put it on.
