| On a quad steering dampers are to reduce bump steer so that the bars aren't ripped out of your hand when you hit rocks and stumps. Reducing bumpsteer also reduces rider fatigue.

| I rode a KX250 set up for desert racing with a dampner and what 91LT250R said was dead on. It was mch easier to ride and all the shit terrain that normally beats the hell out of me didn't seem half as bad. |

| riding in the sand around buggies they are a must you will hit there tire trails and the bars will slam around... with the sablizer -denton- it is much calmer on the bars and wrists

| steering dampners are a MUST for serious racing and long days of riding. It does the exact same thing a motorcycle dampner does, and the more $$ you spend, the better sensitivity and more adjustments you get. I run a very cheap piston/cyclinder style that has a rod and cylinder like as euber expensive PEP or Denton. However, Precision Racing Concepts has a very new stabilizer that you can set for high speed and low speed dampning. For intance, you can turn your bars 1/2 way and feel a certain amount of reistance, then turn them to 3/4 and feel another ranger of resistence. What you get is the ability to hang on less and therefore loosen up your forarms. This in turns usually allows for less arm pump during a ride, and more stable landings if you get crooked when jumping. That help?
