Question Gas mileage

Hi,
We are thinking about getting a lt250r and i was wondering how easy they are on gas? About how many hours or miles can you go on a tank? And does anyone know the top speed?

Thanks for any help

Wink

not really much to do to improve the mileage other than fiddeling with the gearing or runnign a smaller carb ...... a 110 honda 3 wheeler will get way better mileage and so will a sears 12hp craftsman lawn mower , but neither is going to have much performance or fun ... see performance equals fuel usage ...an engine will make its available power by how much air and fuel it can effeciently pump through it . i wouldnt try to choke it down brother ....instead enjoy it ,its not a suzuki hybrid lol

Default Its good

Ya I have a 88 LT with a few mods, listed below. And I ride with a group of people who pretty much all have Honda 250r's. Usually they are the ones to make us come back to camp from a ride, I ALWAYS consume less fuel than them. I ride the same speed as them and my LT always has about 1/4th of a tank more than them.

So in comparison to banshee's, 250R's and Tecate's the LT is one of the most efficient if not the most.

Default 400ex vs. LT

Well the mileage will be better in a 400ex but because its an older 4-stroke but depending on the bikes condition it could require more maintanence.

I do mostly dune riding, and that requires you to be high in the revs most of the time, at least thats the way I ride. So because of that more fuel is consumed in dune riding compared to other types of riding i do. But like I said befor my 88 LT is always the most fuel efficient of the group

If you are deciding between a 400ex and a LT, depending on the conditions of both and the price I would be in favor of the LT. Simply because the 400ex (I'm guessing) will be older and the older 4-strokes aren't as fast as the 2-strokes most of the time.

So if you are looking for a light, easy to work on bike that requires little maintainence and will most like be faster and have that sweet 2-stroke power-band go with the LT

The 400ex will be more reliable, depending on its maintanence history. And will be more fuel efficient because its a 4-stroke. I talked to a guy once at Sand Mt. with a newer 450r and he said he can ride all day on his tank. Where as on my bike I usually fill up 1.5-2 times a day there.

But probably the most definative thing in fuel efficiency is how you ride. I like to ride fast and balls out, alot of people don't. SO because of that I'm going to use up more gas than other people who just putt around.

But ya man, hope that helps. This stuff was what some people taught me and i find it to be true most of the time.
