Default 88 lt25r cyl head questions

my lt250r cyl head, is pitted and has a few gouges in it. will this hurt anything if i sand down any of the high spots and run it or should i get the bowl cleaned up or find another head? everything else looks good, no cracks, just very pitted and 2 small gouges. i bought it like this i don't know what happened to it, the cylinder was ruined, i just got a new one. the bottom end is being rebuilt. so my only worry is the head now. any advice? i want this motor build to last along time. thanks

I think you can still use it. How big are the gouges? After replacing pretty much the rest of it, I wounldn't want to crap out on the trail because some gouges affected the way the fuel combusted. Get a good used one would definetly be safer.

sand it smooth to the best polished finish you can

Or have it re-cut (turned) by a professional

I have seen many bikes that ran great with dented heads...but personally I would replace it... if the dents were a good thing the factory would have put them there... and they very well could cause hot spots...

Look on e-Bay for another head or buy a Coolhead. They are not too much money concidering you already spent the cash to have the rest of the motor rebuilt. You might as well complete the package.
