Hello Out There I Am A New Member. I Am Having Trouble With A Lt250r That I Just Purchased. Last Owner Stated That The Motor Was Rebuilt 3 Years Ago And That I Ran Great. He Also Stated That It Has Been Sitting For A Few Months And That The Carb May Need To Be Cleaned. I Cleaned The Carb But Can't Get The Darn Thing To Start. I Replace The Coil And Plug With Brand New Ones And Cleaned Out The Carb But It Won't Fire Up. It Is An 86 Model And Has A Kick Start. I Took Off The Exhaust And Looked Inside And Can See The Piston Move But All It Does Is Spit Out Gas And It Never Ignites From The Spark Plug. Also I Need A Wiring Diagram Downloaded To Me Because The Book I Have Doesn't Say Much. Help Thanks

Does it actually have spark? You need 3 things: spark, fuel, and compression. You just need to see whats missing and go from there. Welcome to the site too.

| Welcome to E2S, Im sure your going to find all the information you seek!!! To check for spark hold the plug to the head while turning over the engine, look for spark. The 85-86 lt250r engines have a reed induction instead of a V reed cage, this can cause a harder start. However, these engine should be able to start on the first or second kick. Like stated above Check: Compression, Spark & Fuel. One you know you have spark, Try to start it for several kicks; then take the plug out & see if it has gas on it... Let us know how it goes... Please post your quads modifications & some pictures too......Travis

Thanks For All The Responses. I Have Just Tried To Kick It Over Again And I Am Still Not Getting A Spark. There Is Fluid On The Plug. There Are A Few Wires Not Connected Under The Gas Tank But I Was Told That They Were For The Headlight That Was Taken Off. O Yeah I Do Have The Quad In The Run Position And Full Of Gas. I Have A Few Wires That I Can't Figure Out. I Have A Blue Wire,yellow/red Wire, Black/white Wire And A Black/red Wire Going To The Stator Cover. Which One Provides Power?

The blue wire goes from the pick up coil in the stator to the cdi , The red/yellow comes from the stator and goes to the light switch, The black/white is a ground wire for all the components including the cdi,and the black/red comes from the stator and goes straight to the cdi. If i remember right when i wired my 86 the only wires that needed to hooked up to run were the black/white ground, The blue and the red/black. also the black wire from the coil to the cdi.I tried to scan in the page but was having problems with the scanner. I took a pic w/the camera but may be to blurry to help.
