Exclamation QUICK HELP!! Sputtering in top of 2nd//3rd gear?

Hey guys I recently had to replace the ignition coil and CDI in my 250, and now I've noticed that there is sputtering in the top of the second and 3rd gear, similar to that of a flyband that isn't warmed up yet. This is well after it should be warm though. I dont know if this is improper jetting (we never really got that right) or something still dealing with the electrical. I need ya'lls help quick please and thanks

sounds like its lean on the main, but the way you described your plug that it wouldnt be. is your air filter clean, does it do it with a new spark plug...if it was electrical it would be a consint miss throughout the rpm range and not just once youve been on the main jet for a while. id say clean your carb, air filter and new plug and dump that gas mix up a new batch. then check what your plug looks like and jet accordingly. I think if you do that it will run like its new!!

yea thanks, it did sit for a while before i replaced the CDI, but i dropped the bowl, and put fresh gas and a new plug in it before i kicked it for the first time after gettin the nice new spark going. But, it used to have a bored out cylinder, and I dont think that when i got the new stock jug put on that they rejetted accordingly. Another problem is that I sold it to another guy so its not sitting in my garage to just go strip down the carb real quick (or I would).

If the plug looks good try leaning out your gas mix a bit and on your air screw start at full close and back out 1 1/2 turns to 2 full turns out. That should let it run leaner at the carb.If that don;t work then try to re jet and check your reeds for debree or just worn out causing a rich running quad. When these quads run rich they break up and sputter and run just plain shitty.Depending on your altitude and gas quality you can fine tune it by adjusting your air idle mix....

your air screw is for idle to very low throttle only. not your topend at all... the main jet is the only way to adjust full throttle jetting
