Default LT250r-not running right

OK so my lt has a hestitation in 1st and 2nd gear, and the other gears seem flat up top. so i tried 100 octane fuel and a larger main jet to see if it wasnt getting fuel up top, and they helped a little bit. I think i am going to take the head off and look at the cylinder and piston to see how the wear is on it. what do you guys thinkit could be, am i heading in the right direction, or is it some thing entirely different, lke electrical? could bad reeds cause this, and how do i inspect the reeds? thanks for your help.

The reeds are on the bottom of the jug have to pull it to see them. Might be something to look at while you are looking at everything else in there. I would think if the reeds were fubar then it would be a pain to start, no idle, and just all around shitty not just 1st and second gear but again its something to look at. How did the plug look after you swapped gas and changed the jets out? I would try a compression test and see what you are getting before you go pulling it apart.

yeah i have a pv motor, and i will probably look at that too. by the way, is there a way to adjust the powervalve? i know on one of my brothers bike it is adjustable, but that is the cable operating kind. i am really wanting to get this thing running right before i go to the badlands on may 17th, i dont want to take my blaster instead of this.

It could be a number of things try simple first pull the carb and clean all the passages good with compressed air or spray can.on the back of carb where rubber boot meets is a mall brass screw turn it back till it bottems out and remember the revolutions.Try turning it out 1 1/2 to 2 turns out. This is a good starting point for mix. While carb is off pull the reed cage and check your reeds they need to be completly flat with no chips or damage.clean the reed cage really good.reassemble reed cage and carb and air box.clean your air filter also. Now pull the plug and see what it is probably a standard plug.I found my racer has ran the best with the ngkb8egv plugs they run a little hotter and dont foul as often. Now with new plug clean carb and reeds start it up and let it warm well. This is where you can fine tune the mix screw.give it about 1/4 throttle and turn the mix screw in or out 1/4 turns at a time till the engine runs smooth and revs quickly with no bogging. If you notice a difference with this then take it out for a ripp and see if it clears up.If not check back in ............good luck

Forgot to mention do not turn the air mix screw more than 3 full turns out and when you reasseble the redd cage use a small amout of red silicone to seal it up tight......................................

ok the compression is good, and i messed with the fuel mix screw, but it still runs bad. I am going to check the reeds next, but i wondered if anyone had any other ideas. It runs awesome until about half throttle, and then it sounds (and runs)exactly like a 4-stroke hitting its rev limiter. Thanks.

If the reeds are ok then pull the 2 screws halfway out of the power valve adjusting plate on left side of motor. Then rotate the inner hub 1 full turn counter clockwise and set the screws.See if that helps

ok so the messing with the pv didnt help, so friday i took everything apart, cleaned the carb, reeds, inspected everything and it all looks good. found out the head has a 20cc dome, so i will now be running 110 octane. i am getting new gaskets today, so i will put it back together and run it and see if it runs better, and then i think i will be moving on to something electrical, like the stator, if it stilll dosent run right. Am i on the right track, or is there something else elctrical (or non-electrical) that should be tried first? thanks

What type of Carb do you have on it? What are the main & pilot jet #'s?
This really sounds like a jetting issue?
Did it run good before, with the same jetting?
