Lightbulb My 1986 Frame Up Project..

Well If you read my other threads you'll know that I have had alot of bad luck with this quad because the guy I got it from treated it worse than a 10 cent whore..

When I was taking it apart to sand blast the frame I noticed the bottom of the frame rails were toasted. So I figured out how to fix it I think I am going to cut tubing in half length wise and weld it over the bad spots.

I"m also Moving the Front shock mounts to put some longer shocks in there since I want this to be an Mx'er.. I just don't know what shocks to go with anyone got any ideas??

I want to complelly redo this bike so I don't have any problems with it for a while. I am to used to just rigging stuff up to hurry up and go riding and then having to fix it the next day any way. So its about time to do it right the first time..

I think I'm going to sandblast the frame and get the stuff welded up then paint it with automotive paint since I have a brand new spray gun I've never got to use yet.

The quads going to need alot of work and Money to get finished to I'm figuring its going to take a good few months. And the worst part is I'm not working at the moment because I just recovered from a car wreck and I'm waiting to hear from my boss about when I can get back to work..

Any way heres some pictures of the quad, I'll be keeping this thread updated on the progress as I go.

Wow, I think for what it's going to cost to get it back to normal would be the same as buying another one with a better frame at least. That cylinder looks like it has sat in the rain without a spark plug for a year or so. Good luck with the rebuild and keep us posted on the progress.

Naw the cylinder was on my back porch which is covered I should have kept it oiled up to keep it from doing that but its only surface rust from condensation it will come rite off with some wd-40 and a rag... I still might buy another frame and toss the one I got It depends on how cheap I can get one for..

Thanks, They way I look at it though It might cost me $4,000 to build this the way I want but thats still half the price of a brand new bike. And this will have after market everything ready to race.
Thanks

I know the feeling, the lt250r I bought seemed to be a great deal and the more I get to know it the worse I found it was.I just got the motor back from having the crank seal replaced friday, and sat broke the frame that was half ass welded.Long story short,I spent all day swapping the frames over and still have a list of parts needed. Two stroke love, good luck with the project, when you get to ride it,its all worth it!!!!!!!!

What is that brace on the back swingarm?? I think i need one!! When u rebuild that frame make sure u brace the Sh@$ out of it. I had rusted bottom frame rails( but not as bad as urs) also and my welder just laid a piece of 1/8" as wide as the rails all the way down the rails. after it was done it looked good and can probably used to grind some rails. Heres a schematics I found somewhere about some spots that need reinforcement in the frame. If you want to go all out MXer then u might want to check this MX front end but itll blow half ur wad. 204-779-9728 Frames Aluminum LRD 250R Suzuki LT250 front clip

Yeah you definetly might wanna look for a new frame. I just got my jug off fleabay finally and I know I saw a couple frames but I can't remember what year. I'm going through the same B.S. with mine now but it is gonna be worth it when I blow by my buddies 400ex.
