The stock LT250R shocks are 15.5" from eye hole to eye hole so make sure the shocks you buy are the right length. Other than that make sure the quad they're made for isn't a lot lighter or heavier than the LT250R or the quad won't feel right with the new shocks unless they are fully adjustable. Stock weight of the LT is 324 pounds.

I think 400ex shocks will fit. Make sure one of the more knowledgable guys confirms this though.

400ex shocks fit, its just that the shocks are a bit longer and make the front of the quad sit higher. you will also have to adjust the tie rods all the way out to align the front wheels

you can't just go by the length of the shock. you also have to take in account the width of the eyes on the shocks. if they are to wide they won't fit the lt frame.

I just put on a pair of z400 shocks on mine, takes some muscle but you can get em on.Does make your bike taller in the front but I weigh about 225 so its good to have the extra travel and shock.it seemed that the wheels turned in a bit too much until I added spacer on the bottom a arms.Just put the bottom end of the shock in first with some good hard pushing and a screwdriver to pry it in ,it onle took me about 45minutes.

Heres one for sblt500r since I have read a ton of helpful stuff from you. Read the post by garibaldii where he explains how he forcefully put the shocks in. I had to do this once on a quadracer is the reason Im asking this question, but wouldnt that make the front suspension more stiff and not want to flex easily since its been forced in? Or would it be no big deal? Thanks.

Looks like your putting quite a strain on those ball joints.

you shouldn't have to forcefully install a shock. theres something wrong if you have to, or in garibaldii's post too long of a shock. those shocks are too long and put to much stress on the ball joints, you can see that in his pictures. plus he had to make a spacer to push out the lower ball joints to try and correct the tire angle. if you had to push on stock length shocks you must have been doing something wrong, or there was a problem some where in the front suspension. say those joints were at a good angle with no binding from them with the longer shocks, yes the shocks should be stiffer, as now your changeing the angle of the shocks and suspension from stock. the shocks would have to be pushed out farther on the bottom or top to get it back near original. or get a set of longer a arms to get a better feel.

Thanks for the help. The shocks I put in werent to long they were just to wide at the mounting eyes I think.
