Default Mysterious Popping noise

Hello everyone,
I just bought a freshly rebuilt Quadzilla and I have noticed a popping sound when i rev the motor, I put my hand on the front of the side case around the water pump area it seems to be related to the power valve assembly from what i can gather i havent taken the case off yet but i wanted to see if anyone has had this problem before i go digging into her. Any help will be greatly appreciated, Zillbilly.

You need to get that clutch cover off. I've seen the results of similar noises several times and experienced them once myself. Not saying it's your particular problem, but when I had a similar popping sound near my water pump it turned out to be the crank nut had loosened up and trashed the threads on the crank. I've also seen crank nuts come off and trash a whole lot of other parts before the engine stopped rotating.

Regardless of what is causing the noise, you need to find out what it is.

Do it only do it at WOT? I had a popping noise too and thought it was detonating. But later I found out that it was a vibration and the chain kept hitting the swing arm. That and one of my bolts that goes through the motor on the bottom was loose. -Mark

Ouch...i had a nut come off the crank once...it wasnt a zilla but it did some damage. About a 1 inch diameter hole in the clutch cover.
