Yeah, there is no way I will put it back together without NEW thrust washers! Are there supposed to be some kind of thrust washers on either side of the connecting rod where it joins with the crank? Cause if there are they are missing too! It semms to me there is an awful lot of play.

I got the clutch off, BRAND NEW plates, (I mean NEW), New hinson billet proof basket, oil seals are new and the bearings are new and tighter than turtle twat!!! Gears all look good...so if I have to split the cases at least I wont have to replace all kinds of odds and ends......

side to side play is alright, but take the crank and pull on it up and down, there should be zero play or very very very little, you should check the side to side play also

There is really no wear on the pin, because there were NO FRIGGIN THRUST WASHERS THERE!!! The top was recently rebuit, previous owner claimed it has 10 hrs at the most on it. I will still replace the pin anyway, it wouldn't hurt.

Glad to hear you got it out.

Just and FYI I have what is called a "piston pin puller" it is designed for just that. To pull the piston pins. You can get them out of most parts catalogs. Don't remember how much I have had mine for a long time 15+ years.

Sounds like a good tool. The less $$$ I spend on tools, the more ### I can spend on go fast stuff!

There is almost no play up and down on the crank, however the side to side is killing me. The manual I was given is effed up, most of that particular section is very blury. (someone ledt it out in the rain) There must be some kind of washer or bushing that goes in there, right?

the rod is supposed to move back and forth on the crank. the lower needle bearing has washers on each side of it but are smaller in od than the id of the rod, so it allows the rod to move back and forth. the lower washers just keep the bearing in the middle. the upper thrust washers will keep the rod inline.
