Post suzuki rm 85 stuck in gear?

Just bought a 2001 rm 85. The bike is stuck in liek 4th gear not sure if this is a commom problem or not. Just wanted to get an idea of what it coudl maybe be before i rip into it. Bike starts and runs fine it grabs when you let out the clutch. The shifter moves freely nothign seems jammed up or anything just when you click it down or up nothing happens.

Drain the oil, remove the right side engine cover and see if any metal shavings or chunks fall out or are lying on the bottom of the case. If not then most likely you will have to remove the entire clutch to see the shift mechanisim and it's parts to find out what is wrong. It could be as simple as the spring on the arm broke and there is no tension when shifting or who knows. While the cover is off and the basket is out move the shifter and look at what is happening with the parts. Submit some pic's if you don't see what is happening and maybe we can help.
