well not all of them the 85-86 lt250r's had 4 on 130mm pattern the 87-92 lt250r's & 87-90 lt500's had 5 on 130mm & the front rims on the 85-86 were gold but the bolt pattern is the same

That has to be the BEST compilation of a comparison between the 85-86, 87, 88-92 LT250R that I have read to date. Thank you for the excellent information.
I have one question though...the 87 piston is totaly different then the 88-92 or the 85-86...in what way?? I have received both, the 86, the 87, and the 88-92. Depending on what year, the skirt is different. Please explain how, and why??

THanks....

-Ron

Thank you
ok the pistons first off the 85-86 motors are 1/2 breed motors they are 1/2 piston port 1/2 reed motor & were not the best setup IMO avoid them if you can ! & they have a bigger bore with a shorter stroke ok the 87 motor was a spin off of the 86 rm 250 engine with the larger intake reed cage but the lt had a bridged exhaust port & you can use the 86 rm 250 piston in the 87lt's & it doesnt need the piston pin thrust washers big + but it is only a single ring piston now the 88-92 pistons had a cut away on the intake side to keep form blocking the flow of the intake to the cases the 88-92 pistons can be used in the 87 to improve flow or you can machine the cutaway in the rm piston for the best of both worlds IMO

Here are shots of an 87 LT piston and 86 rm piston (left). The 86's dome is taller with a smaller flat on its top. Where's the cutaway on the intake side? Can I use the 87 Wiseco piston in the 86 RM jug? Do I have to use a Wiseco wrist pin for Wiseco pistons?

Also the 86 RM Jug fits 87-92 LT250 but exhaust port has no machining done to accept the exhaust gasket.

just checked the pistons i have & the 86 rm & 87,88-92 (wiseco)have the same dome also checked factory suzuki rm piston & they are the same but the 87 is a newer prolite & the 86 rm used a flat gasket the pins are the same length & dia but the prolite pins are tapered & lighter
how do you post pic on here & i'll post a couple of the pistons & the cut away
i'll try to describe it if you put the piston in the cyl with the top at the bottom of the ports on the intake side the cut away follows the arch in the sleeve on the intake side
btw is that a new 86 rm cyl ? those are getting hard to find
also if you have an rm base gasket they are metal not paper & solve 1 of the problems on the 87-92 lt's leaking/blowing base gaskets if not cometic can cut you a rubber coated alu one

To post pics you need to upload the pics to an internet server- usually the free file space given to you by your internet provider so you can upload your own web page or pictures or video or whatever file. Like ATT gives me 10MB. *edit* use "manage attachments" and upload to this site.*edit*

I just won aN oem base gasket off ebay but it looks to be paper.

Yes the RM cylinder is new.

The domes look different to me on my Wisecos. The casting 474 is the same but the machining is definately different in the two ways I photographed.

OK front suspension
the tie rods are shorter on the 85-86 & 87-92
the tie rod ends are the same on the 250's (several others I.E. 230's)
you can use the ends if your rods are good
the ball joints are the same 85-92 250's & also on the 87-90 500's
steering knuckles are the same on the 85-92 250's
front hubs are the same 85-92 250's & 500's
front shocks are the same 85-86 & shorter than the 87-92
the front shocks on the 87-92 are the same
same with the a arms 85-86 at the same & the 87-92 interchange
