Default Fuel Leak/Petcock ?

This is a question for the 87 LT listed below in my signature. Just a curiosity ?, the petcock no longer shuts the fuel completely off which I believe causes the carb to leak fuel when it is stored (even for just a day). The carb works flawlessly otherwise (nofloat stick, etc.), so my question is (I am replacing the petcock, but am just curious) could the petcock or fuel line have a slight air leak that allows gas to keep flowing even though the petcock is shut off (obviously something is wrong internally with the petcock that is why it is being replaced) so would an airleak/petcock malfunction allow fuel to keep flowing into the carb and drip out the overflow? It is a very small amount just an extremely slow annoying drip!
Just wanted to see what others thought, Thanks

I would say that replacing the petcock should fix your problem. Mine does the same thing on my 86 but haven't fixed it yet.

I would say replace the petcock valve and then check your float level because you shouldn't leak fuel reguardless. If neither of those fix the problem your needle valve is going bad and you will need to replace it. I may be wrong here but I don't believe so but it's something to check anyway. Let us know the verdict.

I am going to order a complete new petcock this weekend, so it will be about a week before it arrives. Then I will check the float and needle in the carb if the problem continues, also replacing the fuel line (mostly to change the color to blue, but also just in case) :p
I will let you know how it turns out!

Fuel comes out of both of my carbs pretty good. The arm attached to the floats that touches the needle valve wasn't really where it should be so I bent it a little to make it touch. It worked fine for a few weeks but now it's leaking like a seive again.

My problem isn't the petcock though cuz when I have it off it's fine. I have to agree with JT, check the needle valve while you're replacing the petcock.
