your going to need a pipe for sure!!!! OR you could just buy a banshee. But may I suggest getting motor work done by a reccomended builder. Your gonna need some $$$$$ to keep up with a 450. But comeon its got like 80% cc than you. Im sure if you put your money into it you should succseed in making it fastTTT!

another question: since my quad is so old, how long do you think it will hold together before i am going to have to dump more money into it than i want to? What im getting at is would it be better just to go buy a new quad rather than start putting money into mine?

It all depends on how much money is alot of money. Maintaining a 2 stroke is expensive enough. Once you get it all fixed up you should only ahve to do routine maint. on it. but I think it would hold up good.

I went 6yrs on the same top end on my 250 before it blew. I ported my own jug and with a pipe, jetting, removed airbox lig and 12/40 gearing I was able to holeshot and walk away from my friends 2003 shee that had boost bottle and reed spacer. Just put exhaust on it "Fatty" and a good port job. That'll wake that bike up. -Mark
