Default 87 engine in 86 frame

Has anyone put a post 87 engine in a 85,86 frame. It appears that the only difference is an engine mount on top of the cyclinder head. I have the 86 frame and got an 87 swingarm which i was told would work. I am pretty much building the bike from the frame up, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
