Default Carbs makes all the diffrence!

This weekend I took off my 38mm smooth bore flatslide with a 370 main jet and replaced it with a stocker 34mm with a 270 jet main in it!

It went from a topend killer to a completely useable powerband with a better topend than before.

Moral of the story is bigger is not always better. And never trust somebody elses tuning. Know your machine and know hoe to make it sing!!

I stress ETG (Exhaust temp gauge) spend little money and and get one it will take all the hassle out of jetting.

Now you figured out that carb size is directly relater to a motors perssonality.....In general a smaller carb will produce better bottom end and a larger carb will work for the top..But a carb that is adjusted well will work the best . One problem you had was the flatslide POS they are just a pain all the way arround and usualy produce a dead spot between 1/8 and 1/2 throttle..

It was my idea to swap the carb out with a stock one. DubsLT concurred with the decision, and the effort was worth it. I must say it runs a hell of a lot better! This thing easily lifts the front end in second gear without popping the clutch. I can't wait to go blaze it some more!

hey flatty, I've always wondered how you use one of those EGT gauges to detirmine jetting...I may have this backwards, but if the temp is too hot, you need to richen the mixture, and vice versa correct? I wanna switch back to the smaller stock carb on the Zilla, but I want it to be done right, I'm not looking forward to having to tear this bottom end down twice because of a freak accident (this isnt exactly a freak accident in this case though, I do have a zilla) that coulda been avoided.

Yeper you right DT higher temps means leaner conditions here is the temp ranges I use...

These are with the motor under load with the pick up installed in the exhaust 6-7 inches from the exhauts flang and at five different throttle positions ...

off idle to 1/8 750-850 Deg.
1/4 850-950 Deg
1/2 950-1050 Deg
3/5 1050-1100deg
wot 1100-1250 deg

I don't use the ones with the lites I have a digital one in the shop and analog mounted on every Quad I like to beable to check my jetting all the time.. now this is runng gas when on the booze the temps will be a little differant.

I've wanted the get one but never really knew what the temperatures should be. All it would've been was another gauge on the banshee. I might have to look into one so I can make sure I'm perfectly tuned. All I've done with the carbs I have now (29mm D-slide Mikuni's) is adjusted the floats, but it is about time for some winter maintenance.

Hey Flattrack where can you get the temp gauge like you are taking. How are the heat guns that you shoot at your exhaust and it gives you a temp reading. I think they sell those at Radio shack
